Presentation Practical information
An unusual night aboard a houseboat on the Erdre

Le D'Ô began life as a 1930s pleasure boat, cruising the Seine long before it joined the fleet of the Bateaux Nantais.

Today it sits moored on quai Henri-Barbusse, on the river Erdre near the Saint-Mihiel bridge, somewhere between nature and city. Depending on the day, this houseboat doubles as a guesthouse, a self-catering stay, or a venue for private evenings.
Every inch of its 45 square metres has been put to work. The trick lies in a single custom-built unit that folds open to reveal a fully equipped kitchen, a generous dining table, and a bed on castors, all tucked away when not in use.

The 15-square-metre lounge is properly comfortable — art books, DVDs, a 40-inch screen, wifi, a Bose sound system — and opens onto the outdoor deck. At the back, the bathroom holds a big Italian-style shower behind coloured plexiglass panels.

The stay covers utilities, cleaning, and bed and bath linen, along with coffee, tea and hot chocolate for breakfast. One thing to plan around: there's no washing machine on board, though a laundry service can be arranged for longer stays. Worth noting too — the boat doesn't take young children.

Once you've stepped off the gangway, the Château des Ducs de Bretagne is a walk away on the cobbled side, while the Île de Versailles gardens, with their Japanese-inspired paths, offer a quieter stretch by the water. The Musée des Beaux-Arts is five minutes on foot.
