Demeure de la Vignole

Demeure de la Vignole

Troglodyte hotel between Chinon and Saumur

Presentation Practical information
The crazy charm of a 15th-century troglodyte village overlooking the Loire Valley: a suite in a 3* Demeure de la Vignole ou Demeure de la Vignole

At 5 km from the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, near the castles of Montsoreau and Saumur, the troglodytic village of Turquant clings to the hillside, overlooking the Loire Valley. In the heart of the Saumur Champigny vineyard, this charming and authentic dwelling has been listed as a historical monument since 1968.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartholeyns have restored this troglodytic village from the 15th century - or even partly from the 12th century - with the manor at its center. This manor belonged in 1474 to Jean de la Vignole, chosen by King René of Anjou as testamentary executor. Now the owners' residence, it also houses some of the rooms.

Two suites, including one family suite, two rooms, an apartment, and a 'troglodytic' gîte with noble materials, old parquet flooring, and personalized decoration will give you the feeling of being comfortably cut off from the world.
Our favorite, the two-story troglodytic suite, was the manor staff's room in the 15th century. On the ground floor, it consists of a spacious living room and a very pretty bathroom adorned with glass tiles and a corner bathtub. You will reach the bedroom via a spiral staircase of about twenty steps. From the terrace on the rock, the site unfolds before you.

In this 3* hotel, regardless of your room, you will enjoy relaxing in an astonishing pool carved into the tufa stone and heated to 28°.
