In the great movement of new-generation hotels, a mix of industrial, design, and a good dose of vintage, youth hostels are full of good intentions. We are already far from Aunt Augustine's youth hostels.
In Venice, on the island of Guidecca and right next to the very select Hotel Cipriani, on the edge of the canal and directly facing Piazza San Marco, this former grain warehouse from 1855 has everything to please families and trendy young people.
Behind an industrial brick facade, the Ostello Venezia is cozy and also takes you back in time. Anwar Mekhayech, who is responsible for the decor, has mixed eras. You will find restored marble columns, moldings, and exposed beams, mixed with baroque furniture, mismatched armchairs, colorful rugs, and billiards tables.
A style that is both retro and urban, the signature of the Generator group, which brings old buildings back to life.
Depending on one's budget, you can stay in a very pretty dormitory bed (mixed or not) or a charming room with a bathroom and a view of the canal. From double rooms to real family rooms (5 people).
